John Day Fossil Beds

Taking a trip with Bob, you see dirt. And rocks. And stuff. We went to the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument. We did see a few fossils. And some dirt and rocks. And stuff.

Actually, the rocks were cool. They had some like the Pallisades at Crater Lake. And they had them in really weird colors. We went through a “blue cove” which was nothing like the kind Cait has in Hawaii, but full of blue rocks and blue water and fossils. And it was NOT from copper, but I didn’t understand much more than that.

And we saw a Jackrabbit. They are bigger than rabbits, and have black points on their ears. This one let us take his picture – they hire him out for the kids who don’t want to look at rocks on field trips, but want to chase animals instead.

Then we saw this place called the Painted Hills. And, it looked like you’d taken sand dunes and drawn lines of paint across them (horizontally). We climbed up to the top of one hill and got a really great view – it was pretty cool.
