Moulton Falls

This was really my last week of vacation: a week with Bob out of town and Soren to help me “spring clean” the house, do yard work, and have adventures (not). We got the house clean, mostly. And the next day, he sprained his ankle, so the yard work and adventures didn’t happen. He also is having trouble doing cross-country practice with a sprained ankle, I don’t know why.

But I took an adventure. I went to a waterfall park, Moulton Falls, and tried to find a trail which was in my book of maps. I couldn’t find the trail, but I walked upstream, along the river, sometimes in the river bed, sometimes on the cliffs. I walked for a long time. The water got very very clear, and I took pictures of the rocks through the water such that you’d swear there was no water at all. The water had worn the rocks away so they were smooth, like at Shelbourne Falls. In one place, I found myself standing in a round place – the river carved a cirque as a glacier would – and I tried to take a video of it, but viewing the video makes me a bit dizzy. I’m not good at the video on the camera thing.

The coolest photo I took was of a place where the drips of water had worn a “fountain” – the kind of fountain you get with three to five bowls, where the water drips from one to another, they’re usually copper, they extend in a line. However, these bowls were made from the rock, and they looked a bit melted as worn rock can, and the water was still dripping. Cool. See?

And, Bob and I took a walk today, and I saw a turtle. I like turtles. There was a lake and a stream and woods, and it was pretty and low key – not as clambery as the other day, but maybe more exercize, because I didn’t have to stop all the time to hack my way through stuff. Both have their advantages.
