We went to see the swans at Salmon Creek Greenway yesterday. Jerry had told us about them, and so we decided to look. They really are there. The ones I've seen in Ridgefield are too far away to get good photos of, and a bit too far away to see well. These were cool.
But the coolest part was not the swans. We were walking on the trail, and we saw an egret (this is not unusual, they come in the winter). We stayed and watched it for a while. Apparently, someone else was keeping an eye on it, and not as tolerant an eye as ours. Suddenly, the heron whose territory this is came swooping in. It dove at the egret. The egret took wing, and the heron chased it out of the area. Watching these two huge birds flying, blue and white together, stunned us. I was so stunned I couldn't take a picture. A moment frozen in time.
Later, as we continued to walk, I did get a picture of the egret. But no aerial contest.
